Step by step approach

 It is very important that when studying, you should  study alone in a quiet place and try to concentrate on the study material. Making drawings, graphs and  tables of the material will be very useful.

Before you start reading a chapter or a topic it is advisable to go through the sections and chapters and survey the study material. Check out the  material, headings ,sub-headings and go throughout the introductory parts,various diagrams, illustrations etc. just to get a feel of the subject before you.

Note down the most important points and the portions to be covered extensively. What sections are complex and what sections are important?. It will give you a framework and help you define the important portions to be covered effectively.

Start reading paragraph by paragraph. Underline key words phrases and sentences to help you recall the main points.  Summarize main concepts in your own words in the margins and take notes wherever required.

Try to recall basic details and points which you covered. Cross check, verify and  go throughout the portions once again till you are satisfied. Then finally review. Go through the keywords, underlined portions and notes wherever you have jotted down.

The review process can be done frequently to ensure better retention. Repetition: An useful and effective method as more the number of times we go through the materials chances of retention and understanding is more.

Habits

Avoid Procrastination. Prepare yourself to succeed in your studies. Allocate convenient and sufficient time for your studies. Do not allow your friends relatives to disturb or distract you from your schedule or studies. Prioritize your schedule and stick to it.

Concentration.

It is very important that you focus on the studies and not be distracted.The focus on the task at hand is very essential.. Stick to routine as far as possible.Insulate your self from noises and study in a quiet comfortable environment. Take short breaks, get refreshed and get back to your studies.Take good notes in your class lectures and textbooks  Review notes briefly before the next class   Schedule some time at the end of the week for a longer review   Organize your notes, texts, and assignments  according to what will be on the test   Estimate the hours you will  need to review materials .  Draw up a schedule  that blocks units of time and material   Test yourself on the material   Finish your studying the day before the exam. 

Test Preparation

Pay particular attention to any study materials, guides or reference materials   that the teacher or instructor hands out in class before the exam  or even at the beginning of the course. Ask the teacher/instructor what to anticipate on the test?. What sections are important?  Be attentive and regular to the classes scheduled before the exam. Make a list of possible questions. Refer to the question papers of previous tests and reference materials. Check out with the teacher and other students.

Test Anxiety :

Be prepared. Learn your study materials thoroughly. Get a good night's sleep the night before the exam and approach the exam with confidence. Do not go to the exam with an empty stomach  Fresh fruits and vegetables help reduce   foods can include processed foods, artificial sweeteners, carbonated soft drinks, chocolate, eggs, fried foods, junk foods, pork, red meat, sugar, white flour products, chips and similar snack foods, foods containing preservatives or heavy spices. Take a small snack, or some other nourishment  to help take your mind off of your anxiety. Avoid high sugar content (candy) which may aggravate your condition. Allow yourself plenty of time especially to do things you need to do before the test and still get there a little early.  Relax just before the exam  Do not try to do a last minute review   During the test:   Read the directions carefully. Budget your test taking time  Change positions to help you relax. If you go blank, skip the question and go on  Do not panic  when students start handing in their papers. There is no reward or credits for being the first done.

Organizing for tests

Begin reviewing early . This will give your brain time to get comfortable with the information.  Conduct short daily review sessions.  You can ease into more intense review session prior to major exams . Review with a group . This will enable you to cover important material that you may overlook on your own.  Break up the study tasks into manageable chunks, especially during major reviews prior to exams.  Studying three hours in the morning and three in the evening will be more effective than studying at a six hour stretch. Studying while you are mentally fatigued is usually a waste of time .  Study the most difficult material when you are alert .
