‘The’ is the definite Article.

Where to use Indefinite Articles?

Article An - is used with a word beginning with a vowel sound.

You are an honest person.

You are an intelligent person.

Article A is used with a word beginning with a consonant sound.

He is a university student.

She is a European.

There is a flower.

Before a singular countable noun representing no particular person or thing -  A/An is used.

He has an apple.

She is a queen.

A/An is used before a singular countable noun representing a class of things or persons.

A tiger is a ferocious animal.

A student should obey his master.

A/An is used to make a proper noun into a common noun

My neighbor is a John.

He is a Tendulkar.

A/An is used in exclamations before singular countable nouns.

What an interesting story.

What a lovely evening.

A/An is used in the original sense of one or any.

He wants a phone.

When we refer about a particular thing or book.

When a singular noun is representing a whole class.
